On October 9, 2021, my daughters and I attended the Miniature Golf Rededication/Girl Scouts Bridging ceremony at Douglass Park. It was a gorgeous fall day to explore such a hidden gem on the Westside of Chicago. I grew up in the Austin area; unfortunately, I never visited this park as a child. We currently live in the Northwest suburbs but I bring my daughters to the city often for cultural events. When we arrived, the soulful sound of a live-band, and the aroma of barbeque filled the air. There were many community vendors and services being offered. I even took my 1st COVID test and received rapid results. My daughters were so excited to be surrounded by so many people of color; I was thrilled for them to have this experience. We danced to R&B hits arranged by a live DJ; played an educational round of free golf; each hole teaches a new bird fact. We also learned that Douglass Park is home to over 200 species of birds. How fascinating! Our bellies were filled with free BBQ/soul food, Mexican fruit & elotes, and my girls loved the free ice cream. The only downside to this awesome day was the invasion of the bees! 🐝I had never encountered so many aggressive bees in my life. Overall, it was an amazing fall event!
Place is nice to visit either outside or inside. You can rent space for your next event and looks great. The overall look of the place is awesome. And the park has plenty of events to come and join. The events range from early childhood to culture and arts, gymnastics, sports, wellness and more.
Lots of RICH HISTORY of when this city really CARED about it's buildings and parks.
