An earlier review was complaining about the holes and I was dumbfounded. Yes it's freaking inside which limits space but the course uses the space so well. The holes were so fun! I liked the non traditional holes - I mean this isn't Pebble Beach - it's freaking mini golf! We went day drinking here and played the full 18 holes. I was a bit disappointed in the drink options - the non-alcoholic ones sounded so good - so I ordered one of those with a shot. Parking can be found right around the corner. Or the light rail goes right by ...
Nice place. Weak drinks and an even weaker course. Generally a good place, but kind of a let down. I've been to the original Urban Putt in SF so wanted to try this one out. It looks good, they definitely spent a lot modernizing it to SJ over SF. I have 2 sizable cons about this version of Urban Putt which is 1) the drink seemed pretty weak or light on the pours. I'm a lightweight and some of the allegedly harder drinks didn't do anything for me. So for $16 a drink (minimum) they were not that great. 2) This is my biggest gripe, the course itself. In SF each hole was pretty well themed and involved, and while that's the case here, they really deviated from true mini golf here. I do like the Winchester house hole, that was really well done as was the Dia hole right after, but the rest were... You can see where the budget ran out. There were a lot of holes that seemed like filler holes where you're not golfing, you're just using your golf ball as a piece for a completely unrelated game like plinko or a table maze which there were two of btw. Those I cannot count as real holes quite honestly. I will give half credit to the mini simulator one cause at least that's skill based to some extent, but wasn't that hard. By comparison my group just got back from Santa Cruz and the boardwalks mini golf that sure spans multiple floors is slightly less themed, but significantly cheaper and is more skill based. One of the secondary gripes with the course at UP was holes 9 and 18 just being a zero skill ball return. You just putt into the funnel and it goes in every time. My point in all of this is if they're appealing to a fun time only sure it's maybe worth a one time go. But a lot of these holes felt less like actual mini golf and more "playtime with a golf ball" where you just watch your ball cycle through a machine. Honestly I'd say my ball had more fun than I did. For $20 I expected a lot more... I highly doubt I'll be back.
Really like the indoor design. Nice bar. Very cool and fun joint for kids and adults. Parking was a challenge as it's located downtown SJ. The food was decent. Drinks were yummy. The indoor golf pathways and interaction were amazingly fun as each area has a unique theme. From haunted house to an interactive hand maze, to a racing pinball-machine like maze, and more. Different from any other golfing areas. The path can be a bit confusing, overwhelming, and overcrowded. It also has an upstairs game/bar areal. I recommend going early on weekdays. Less crowded so you can enjoy it with no rush.
